One of the most famous towns in Italy is Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and, above all, homeland of St. Francis, the man who renounced all his possessions in order to devote his life to helping the needy.Dedicated to him is the splendid Basilica, one of the emblems of Christianity, located on Mount Subasio, from which it overlooks the entire valley, is dedicated to him. Apart from being a strong appeal for millions of religious believers, the Basilica is a monument of great artistic value. St. Francis's Basilica consists of two churches laid upon each other and a crypt containing the tomb of the Saint. The Lower Basilica, with a double front portal, presents a simple facade embellished with a rose window and a mosaic. The interior is decorated with frescoes by some of the most important painters from 1200 to 1300, from Cimabue to Giotto and from the Lorenzettis to Simone Martini. The light that filters through the beautiful stained glass windows by Giovanni di Bonino and Puccio Capanna creates a very suggestive ambience. In the Upper Basilica, it is possible to see the life cycle of St. Francis in frescoes painted by maestro Giotto, and the stories of the Old and New Testament covering the entire nave, and other wonderful frescoes by Cimabue and Torriti.

My mom had requested to visit Europe for her 70th birthday. We didn't have the resources to travel until recently so I wanted to make this a memorable trip for her, while still on a budget. Fortunately for us, we were able to do it before the covid pandemic took hold of the world. As I was researching and booking tours, I met Rossana. She was very communicative and informative, and I ended up booking three private tours with her: (1) Roman Basilicas, (2) Padre Pio and St. Michael the Archangel Sanctuary, and (3) Assisi and Cascia. She even helped me navigate how to attend an audience with my mom and the Pope. Rossana and Luigi treated us like family! They met us promptly in Rome, picking us up and dropping us off at our hotel. They brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers to celebrate my mom's birthday, which my mom later left for Padre Pio. They were very accommodating to my mom's mobility needs and provided a wheel chair. At all times, I felt my mom was safe in their care. Rossana was very knowledgeable and conveyed her knowledge about every location we went. It was clear that she is passionate about Italy, it's culture, and it's history. The Roman Basilica tour was a great way to see an overview of the city as well. One of the benefits of the private tours was being able to stay in an area as long as we wanted, which also gave us time to pray when we visited my mom's favorite saint, Padre Pio, and my favorite saint, St. Francis of Assisi. It also meant we had the opportunity to eat at some delicious family-run restaurants. On our journey to visit St. Francis, St. Claire, and St. Rita, we bumped into a church group visiting from Naples, first helping them take group photos and then as we prepared for evening mass at Cascia. Rossana was incredible, stepping in to interpret for us. When we met again at a gas station on our way back to Rome, we made plans to visit them in Naples and Rossana agreed to be our guide. I cannot thank Rossana and Luigi enough for making my mom's birthday truly an enjoyable and memorable one! We cannot wait to go back and see Naples with Rossana and Luigi when it is safe to do so!

We booked this tour with Rome Italy Explora and very happy that we did go with Rossana and her team. She met us on time where we were staying and guided us to the car, which was very comfortable for my family (we did the tour with our two children ages 10 and 14 and they were able to have a quick nap in the back). The driver was safe, and Rossana spent great time answring our endless questions. The tour itself was very informative and rich in spirituality. We are very grateful for Rossana and her team and will recommend this tour to family and friends.

We could never have imagined a more beautiful experience from our recent one-day trip yesterday to Assisi and Cascia with the best private tour guides ever…Rome Italy Explora. Rosanna, Luigi and everyone on the team were fantastic, tireless, patient, so accommodating and considerate, and always made you feel just like family. I’m a disabled veteran with a lot of anxiety in new places and unfamiliar faces and I easily relaxed like I was visiting old friends. They are so in control and seamlessly insert you into every place. Rosanna and Luigi, plus their excellent team of seasoned drivers and top-notch, expert specialty tour guides provided such a great, no rush vibe allowing us to venerate, meditate, pray and connect with the peace of St Francis and St Rita. Absolutely amazing!!! I felt like a queen. I was the only one on the tour. Luigi and Rosanna took great care of me. They were super nice and very knowledgeable!! And when we had a little extra time we were able to have lunch and make an extra stop. An amazing trip!!! Kind souls. Highly recommend!!

A BIG Grazie to our tour host Juliana and her team Roberto, Rita and Madelina for their fantastic effort. They were tireless, very patient, friendly, considerate and made us feel special and like family all day long. Juliana and Roberto plus their excellent tour guides provided such a great insight into the history/story of the three saints. They allowed us to venerate, meditate, pray and connect with the peace of St Francis, St Claire and St Rita. So much to see, so many little things we never knew and learned with constant pleasant surprises at every turn make this tour into a life changing experience. This was one of the greatest tours my mum and I had in Italy. I highly recommend booking this luxury tour to Assissi and Cascia.

Personalized and extremely informative. Francesco ensured everything was perfect! So thoughtful with an umbrella and bottled water for each of us. Luigi drove the van safely and efficiently and accompanied us at every turn. Madeline was very friendly and thorough, and Father Oswald made our monastery visit in Cascia the highlight of our tour. What a terrific day!!

Incredible Private Day Tour to Assisi & Cascia We did the Assisi and Cascia Private Day Tour from Rome with Lunch and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment Luigi pulled up in the van, we knew we were in good hands. The van was spacious, clean and very comfortable, and they even had water bottles waiting for us—such a thoughtful touch for a long day. Our guide, Francesco, was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also so kind and engaging. He really made this trip special. Being in Assisi and Cascia felt almost unreal—surrounded by the history and presence of Saints Francis, Clare, Rita, and Blessed Carlo Acutis. Francesco shared the stories and history of the Saints in such a meaningful way that we all, including our kids (11 and 13), stayed engaged the entire time. Luigi was a fantastic driver—safe, patient, and kind—making the long journey feel effortless. Lunch in Assisi was an experience in itself: a beautiful restaurant with a view of the town and absolutely amazing food. It was a long day (about 12 hours), but it never felt tiring. We brought pillows so the kids can rest on the way there and back. Everything ran smoothly, and the combination of fascinating history, breathtaking scenery, and great company made it a day we’ll always remember. Highly recommended!

We can't thank Camilla and her entire team at Rome Italy Explora enough for our once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy! From the time I did research until after our tour was complete, the company went above and beyond to make sure every need/question was answered. We had booked several tours with this company, but this particular day was something I was so looking forward to as I adore St. Francis & St. Rita. I was so grateful to even find a tour like this as we wanted to stay based in Rome. Our tour guide Maria and driver Luigi were absolutely amazing. As my in-laws are primarily Spanish speakers, we were so blessed to have Maria and Luigi as they also speak Spanish! We saw so many impressive sights in Assisi and Cascia that I was overwhelmed with joy. The tour and lunch were absolutely a dream come true for me. Seeing St. Carlo Acutis was icing on the cake, and we were truly so blessed to experience it. I highly recommend Rome Italy Explora to families who are looking for a company who truly cares about tailoring your experience to fit your needs. I hope to book them again for our next trip! :)

Francesco our tour guide and Luigi our driver, from Rome to Assisi and Cascia round trip were AMAZING! They both went above and beyond for my family. My 87 years old parents were with us and they had a hard time going around, Francesco and Luigi made it work and helped us out to get my parents from one church to another when they both got to a point of exhaustion. For some reason, Assisi was packed with students. It was chaos all over Assisi with young pilgrims. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND FRANCESCO AND LUIGI 💯 times over and over again. I’m always traveling to Italy, they are both by far the best tour guide I’ve used.
