The Church of San Francesco hosts the testimony of the oldest Eucharistic miracle of the Catholic world. Around the year 700 a Basilian monk doubted the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist: during the mass the consecrated host and wine became flesh and blood. The two relics, 5 drops of coagulated blood and a thin membrane of flesh are respectively preserved in a silver monstrance and in a crystal ampoule.Histological examinations,have shown that it is human blood and heart tissue with the same blood group (AB).The sanctuary is visited every year by thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. The Shrine of Manoppello is recognized as the true Face of Jesus Christ. From 1646 the Holy Face is exposed to the veneration of the people.It is a soft veil, the warp and the weft are intertwined in the form of a normal weaving and the Face of the Shroud of Turin and that of Manoppello fit perfectly, because both fabrics had been laid on the body of Jesus.

In the Region of Abruzzo, at Lanciano, the Church of St. Francis holds the relics of the earliest-known Eucharistic Miracle (from 750 A.D.). During Holy Mass a priest, doubtful of the Body of the Lord’s presence in the Sacramental Host, witnessed its transformation into flesh - and that of the wine into blood - after he had pronounced the words of the consecration. The Eucharist presupposes the presence of Christ and reminds of his sacrifice in the name of humanity; the Eucharistic prayer and the operation of the Holy Spirit are the means to transubstantiation, or the transformation of the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. During the Eucharist, taking the host and wine – the Holy Sacrament - on a quotidian basis is not a miracle in itself, as in their form and substance they remain unaltered. Rather, in Church history numerous Eucharistic Miracles have been documented; in these special cases, the physical transformation of the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ has been witnessed. Such miraculous events have often been verified in masses given by priests that doubted in particular the presence of the Body of the Lord in the consecrated host – some of these cases include that of the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano, of Trani, and in several events of sacrilegious theft of the host from the Church. Other Eucharistic Miracles refer to the miraculous preservation of the Sacramental bread, for instance when it has remained intact after fires (e.g. the Eucharistic Miracle of Florence). The term Eucharist, which means Holy Communion, derives from (εὐχαρίστω), Greek for "I give thanks," an expression of thanksgiving to Jesus Christ for his sacrifice to humanity. For Christians, the Eucharist is the Sacrament established by Jesus during the Last Supper, on the eve of his passion and death.

Incredible pilgrimage! It was a faith deepening experience. Two absolutely amazing miracles! The heat muscle and blood of Jesus in the flesh is the first Eucaristic Miracle of it's kind and had been proven to be human heart tissue and human type AB blood. To be in it's presence and see it with our own eyes was amazing and profound. Then the face of the veil is striking, and when that image is overlayed with the images from other veils, the result is spectacular. This is definitely a worthwhile pilgrimage. I took this trip with my wife. We rode in a luxury car with a great driver through beautiful mountains. Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable, and able to help translate things to English from Italian. The miracles were really special. With the advanced notice we gave them, they were able to accommodate our vegan dietary restrictions for a great lunch. It was an excellent 12 hour day. I highly recommend it!

Rossana Lanucara, our guide and Rodriguez, the driver provided the four of us a marvelous and enlightening 12 hour day from Rome to Lanciano and back on October 19. It was a 5 star experience!

El milagro eucaristico de Lanciano es uno de los lugares que el misticismo y espiritualidad que desafian las leyes fisicas se conjugan. El ver ese trozo de carne y sangre disecada te acerca más a Dios. Aqui no encontrarás atractivos arquitectonicos, pero si mucha fe. Creo que despues de la pandemia, sera un punto donde muchas personas iran para renovar su fe, dar gracias y hallar consuelo. Lo recomiendo totalmente

This was a near 12-hour return journey. The 2 drivers ensured the long drive was undertaken safely. Our guide Rossana exercised flexibility to accommodate my less mobile elderly sister. As requested, she even arranged a private Mass for my group at Lanciano although, for convenience, we joined a group from Australia for Mass instead. At Manopello, she arranged for Friar Fr. Abel to recount the history of the Holy Face and explain its deeper meaning to us. This trip is indeed spiritually uplifting.

Our family of 5 from the US booked this trip as an excursion for a day to get out of busy Rome. A beautiful trip to the more rural Adriatic side of Italy. Two deeply moving spiritual sites that cannot be expressed with words. Francesco and Roberto took amazing care of us for the day and also sprinkled in some walks of the local towns along the way, local food (amazing arrosticini!!), and other surprises we appreciated. Thank you both again for a wonderful day!!

This tour was brilliant mainly due to the professionalism, knowledge, care, insight and planning by our tour guide Francesco and driver Luigi . Both were fantastic! This was a day trip to see both the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano and the Holy Face at Mannopello. Both holy places are unforgettable and going with Rome Italy Explora made the trip both safe and comfortable. I was able to spend a sufficient amount of time to pray during the visit to these 2 holy places. The tour guide, Maria Luisa and the driver, Florian both exhibited professionalism and ensured I was comfortable throughout the trip. Maria Luisa is highly fluent in English and was able to demonstrate expert knowledge on historical and cultural aspects and even give tips on places to eat at her own initiative. They were both considerate of my concerns and preferences for the entire trip and I am glad I was with them. For those who would like private, custom trips around Italy, I'd definitely recommend Rome Italy Explora as the agency of choice.

Francisco and our driver were amazing. They took very good care of us. The information Francisco shared at each site was very knowledgeable. We were not rushed at either site, Francisco was very patient giving us plenty of time for prayer. We wish all of our tour guides were as good at their job as Francisco is. Our driver was very careful in traffic and always available for extra help. The excellent Italian lunch was wonderful, Francisco's choices for food was tasty and very Italian. Foods we had not tried.
