Loreto is one of the most important sacred places for Catholic pilgrims in the Marches Region. Its history begins December 10, 1924, when the Sanctuary of the Holy House of the Virgin Mary was moved from Nazareth to its current site; this belief is supported by the research that recently has been carried out on the graffiti found inside this house. The sacred house (Santa Casa) has a very simple structure with three walls, each of them reaching the height of three meters, composed of sandstones and refined with a particular technique that was used in Palestine in the time of Jesus. This site is remarkable for its religious and spiritual values as well as for the artistic importance of its highly-decorated marble work. Pope Julius II commissioned Donato Bramante for the marble vestments, that was completed under the direction of Andrea Sansovino, Ranieri Nerucci and Antonio da Sangallo, the latter being the young creator of the amazing upper balustrade. Signorini painted the frescoes in the Vestry of Saint John, while Melozzo painted those in the Vestry of Saint Mark; both cycles are of extraordinary artistic skill.
Pomarancio painted the Hall of the Treasury in 1600; tourists can still enjoy these masterly works of art. The late-Renaissance facade was executed in different phases, by Giovanni Boccalini, Giovan B. Chioldi and Lattanzio Ventura, respectively, while the three magnificent bronze portals narrating Biblical scenes were cast on the occasion of the Jubilee in 1600, by sculptors from the Recanati School. The statue of Pope Sistus V, positioned on the Parvise, is attributed to the sculptor Antonio Calcagni, while the piazza just opposite the sanctuary features a beautiful 17th-Century fountain, and is accompanied by elegant lateral structures, e.g. the Apostolic Palace (most likely by Bramante).

A great way to see a lot of Venice in a day. The private tour boat was fantastic. Driver Roberto was so much fun, and we especially enjoyed that his boat had a rising platform that got John and me in an off boat with ease. The visit to Murano glass factory was very special, especially since my parents had given my sister and me wine glasses that were blown there. Watching the glass be blown was something that we had never seen. It’s no wonder the pieces are beautiful, each one unique . The visit to Burano fishing village also fun. Very colorful. And we had great pizza for lunch. The gondola ride was something I’ve dreamt about since I was little girl. Rossana arranged for my dream to come true. The train ride from Rome to and back was long, but very comfortable. And once again Rossana was very attentive and loving. A class act!

Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience the high points of Venice with an experienced tour guide! Rossana took care of everything: train ticketed, local guide (Nicola) for tour of St. Mark’s and Venice, boat ride to Burano and Murano, and gondola ride. I learned so much about Venice and its islands! I would highly recommend for all, especially for those who have one day and want to ensure they visit the top sights in Venice. Fuimos en tour privado desde Roma a Venecia en tren. Bianca, nuestra acompañante ha hecho un trabajo espectacular pasándonos a buscar al hotel con el conductor, llevándonos al tren y estando con nosotros en todo momento. Se ha preocupado de cada detalle y se ha asegurado que todo esté a nuestra disposición. La guía nos entregó una enorme cantidad de conocimiento. Todo ha sido muy bueno, educativo, agradable y romántico.

My husband and I had a wonderful day with our tour guide and driver. It was our first time hiring a private tour and enjoyed our ability to control what we saw and how long we stayed. On a regular tour my husband kindly sits in the tour bus aisle seat allowing me to enjoy looking at scenery from a window. Touring in a private car allowed both of us to enjoy Tuscany. We also enjoyed both winery wines and were able to actually taste the wines and the charcuterie plates provided by the wineries.
